Police are treating a fire at a shop in Bury Park Road in the early hours of Friday morning as arson.

The incident, which happened at Mahir Glamour Fashions, was reported at 3.55am by a resident who contacted the emergency services.

The blaze caused significant damage to the workshop at the rear of the premises and the flat above. Luckily no one was injured.

The officer in charge of this investigation, Investigating Officer Jim Fowler, is keen to trace anyone who saw anyone in the area acting suspiciously.

Investigating officer Jim Fowler said: “We believe a man was seen during the evening at the rear of the premises and when challenged by a resident he asked for directions to Wardown Park and left in a white van. I would urge this man or anyone who can help identify him to contact the police so we can eliminate him from our inquiry.”
