Worried residents who are fighting to stay in their homes while the Highways Agency (HA) tries to sell them are having a public meeting tomorrow (January 26).

Luton North MP Kelvin Hopkins and Councillor Tom Shaw will meet with the tenants to discuss the future of their homes.

The tenants live in properties near Junction 11 of the M1, which were bought by the HA bewteen 1993 and 2000 and which the HA now want to put on the market as they are no longer needed for the motorway widening scheme.

Carol Hover, who lives in one of the 30 or so homes at risk, said: “We realise now that Councillor Shaw and Mr Hopkins are both on our side. Since we have been on the radio and in the newspaper, they have come out to really support us. The meeting will be for people to sign our petition
and to talk through our options.”

Carol said Councillor Shaw appeared on television to say he believed the HA should sell the houses to the local authority.

The meeting is open to the public and will take place from 10am tomorrow in Chaul End Centre, Dunstable Road, Luton.
