Relief at Kenilworth Road as missing mascot returns
Men didn't realise value of head they unearthed
At last - a rare bit of good news from behind the scenes at Kenilworth Road.
After a tough season in League One, players and staff at Luton Town can at least be heartened by the news that beloved mascot Happy Harry has been returned to his rightful place.
The unfortunate Hatter lost his head just over a month ago on his way to a personal appearance in Luton town centre.
But yesterday two men, who had picked up the head after it rolled off the top of an unwitting staff member's car, brought it back in.
It turns out that he has spent the past five weeks sitting in the home of two men who did not realise the value of what they had unearthed.
A relieved Tracy Maddox, who works in the Hatters' commercial department, told the Luton News: "They stored it in their house.
"They didn't realise it had any association with Luton Town Football Club."
It was only after spotting a Luton Town fanzine, which cheekily joked that the reward for Happy Harry's safe return was 10,000, that the pair realised what they had.
Tracy said: "The two guys walked in and asked for their 10,000 reward, I think they were quite disappointed when they found out it was only 100."
But she added: "They've looked after it very, very well. It's brilliant news now that it's back."
Happy Harry will be back in all his glory next season, after his spare head "brother" stood in for him since the mysterious disappearance.
