Robbers grab cash during shop raid
TWO masked men left empty-handed after attempting to rob a betting shop in Luton on Saturday night, but escaped with cash after raiding a nearby shop.
At around 7.10pm, the men, whose faces were covered, entered Ladbrokes in Eaton Green Road and approached the counter in an “aggressive manner”. The manager, who believed the men intended to rob the premises, was able to lock himself in a back room and the would-be robbers left empty-handed.
Around 15 minutes later the same pair entered the Co-operative store in Wigmore Lane, approached the counter and threatened the cashier. The raiders then stole cash before fleeing the store and escaping in a black Ford Ka with the registration number R24 UBP.
Det Con Tom Hamm, who is investigating the two incidents, said: “Thankfully no-one has been injured during either of these incidents, but the staff at the two locations have been left quite traumatised by the actions of these two individuals.”
