A Slip End mum is warning dog lovers not to walk their four-legged friends in Stockwood Park after her 17-week-old puppy was savagely mauled by a pitbull/Staffordshire cross breed.

Shirley Garner of Claydown Way said her children were left distraught after Buster, a Cockapoo, was seriously injured in the unprovoked attack.

“He’s had to have pins in his right back leg as well as stitches for puncture wounds,” the Slip End Lower School chef said.

“The children have waited 18 years for me to agree to them having a puppy and now he’s not allowed to walk.”

Shirley’s sons Corey, 13, Matthew, 18, and Matthew’s girlfriend Hannah Prentice had taken Buster out at about 6.30pm on Wednesday, October 1, when the attack occurred.

“The children were playing with the puppy when this dog jumped over the railings and grabbed him,” Shirley said.

“Poor Buster was just yelping and they scooped him up and rushed him to the car.

“My son asked the man with the dog for his number but he just walked off.”

“I’ve already spent £1,200 on vets bills and I just want people to be aware of what’s happened.”
