A woman was horrified to discover a lump of mould in her tin of Heinz baked beans and sausages.
Diane Paul of Abbey Drive reported the tin, which was in-date, to Heinz and got a voucher for a free one.
The tin was purchased at her local corner shop, but Diane said she did not blame them.
She said: “It’s really disgusting, it’s quite a big lump of mould. I couldn’t see any signs of there being holes or cracks in the tin. When I called customer servicse they didn’t seem very interested and I’m not really happy that they are just brushing me off with a voucher for a replacement tin.”
A spokesperson for Heinz said the safety of their food is always their first priority.
He said: “Great care and attention is given to every aspect of our food preparation, from sorting and screening of ingredients to the stringent precautions and exacting standards adhered to during manufacture. We were very sorry to hear about Diane Paul’s experience. It appears that this particular can may have been damaged at some point outside of our control, however, this is an isolated complaint.”
