SLIDESHOW: See our stunning images from this year’s Luton Carnival
NEW Bedford Road shook to the sounds of the Luton International Carnival on Sunday – and the sun even shone on the procession!
Led by the Ghana Society, the procession got underway at 12.30pm, with the traditional procession along New Bedford Road and into the town centre.
Costumes ranged from the outlandish to the barely-there as dancers shimmied and samba’d their way along the parade route.
Local groups Rampage, St Vincent and the Grenadines Association and St Kitts and Nevis Friends Association wowed the crowds with their colourful creations, and other carnival groups came from far and wide to join in with the party.
The London School of Samba and groups representing Bolivia and Poland all showed off their dance moves in elaborate outfits, and charities were well represented with floats The Samaritans and Cancer Research UK taking part in the parade.
When the procession hit St George’s Square it was joined by the Carnival Crossroads procession from the UK Centre for Carnival Arts, creating a colourful extravaganza that attracted thousands of onlookers.
