Staff and students at Icknield High School are celebrating a ‘good’ rating by Ofsted, as the first secondary school in Luton to be scrutinised by the new government framework.
The school in Riddy Lane, Luton, was assessed for quality of teaching, achievement of students, student safety and behaviour and quality of leadership and management.
Inspectors found that the school’s specialism in visual arts makes an exceptional contribution to students’ social, moral, spiritual and cultural development.
Headteacher Christopher Dean said: “We are all very proud of what we have achieved. However, we cannot be complacent and are continuing our efforts to further raise standards in the school. Icknield works in partnership with seven other secondary schools sharing best practice in teaching which is also having a positive impact on learning.
“Our students are very proud of their school which is evident in our attendance rates which are above average and good behaviour by our pupils with many of our older students acting as positive role models for our young pupils.”
