So what would you do in a crisis?
Campaign launched to ensure people are better prepared
Residents in Luton and Bedfordshire are being asked to think about what they would do in a time of crisis.
The Bedfordshire and Luton Local Resilience Forum (BLLRF) launched its What Would You Do If...? campaign last Wednesday with the aim of helping everyone who lives or works in Bedfordshire and Luton to get prepared and feel confident in the level of service they will receive during an emergency.
The campaign aims to spark thought by getting individuals to consider what they would do in an emergency situation, starting with the delivery of a What Would You Do If..? postcard that will be sent to every home across the county, coinciding with the launch of a dedicated www.whatwouldyoudoif.co.uk website.
The postcard will contain information on preparing for an emergency and what to do should one occur. It also provides a contact detail box that can be personalised.
There is also a What Would You Do If...? emergency kit.
Two competitions will also be launched as part of the initiative - one aimed at individuals, ensuring, the other aimed at the business community, affirming the importance of having business continuity plans.
Both competitions will offer a variety of prizes.
Chairman of the BLLRF, Beds Police Ass Chief Cons John Fletcher, said: "It is important that people living and working within Bedfordshire and Luton feel safe in the knowledge that robust support systems are available in times of crisis.
"Rather than scaring people about the consequences of an emergency, we want to demonstrate how preparation, which takes very little time or effort, can save time, money and lives."
BLLRF will work with key groups including the business community, community leaders and the Bedfordshire and Luton Emergency Volunteers Executive Committee (BLEVEC) to ensure they are as prepared as possible.
A county-wide Emergency Challenge Week will take place in October.
