Staffie attack main event on cop show

A VICIOUS attack on a man in the centre of Luton was the opening incident on BBC1’s Traffic Cops on Monday night.

A woman named Joanne was spotted on CCTV attacking her boyfriend outside the White House in St George’s Square and stealing his money as it fell on the ground.

To make matters worse her two Staffordshire bull terrier dogs, named Minnie and Vinnie, joined in, mauling the man as he lay defenceless on the ground.

A CCTV camera was directly above them, and operatives alerted the police.

But an apparent shortage of local officers meant traffic cops PC Shona Gillen and PC Ian Leeson were the only ones available to attend.

They tracked down Joanne to a nearby newsagent’s shop, but the incident descended into farce as her drinking pals tried to intervene in the situation.

The Staffies at one point ended up with their owner inside the police car, and Joanne, who was later jailed for four weeks, managed to escape not once but twice from the vehicle.

PC Gillen told the programme the scene resembled “a scene from Benny Hill”.
