Student loses teeth in street assault

A 17-year-old student was left with severe bruising to his body and face and lost several teeth after he was assaulted in broad daylight on Monday September 17.

The incident happened at the junction of Brunswick Street and Back Street in High Town at around 5.15pm.

The victim was approached by a group of youths before a girl from the group claimed to know him. He tried to walk away but the group caught up with him and began the unprovoked assault.

The teen was punched and kicked to the ground before £2 fell from his pocket which was taken by one of the offenders. They all then left the scene.

The officer in charge of this investigation, PC Chris Baldwin, is keen to trace anyone who saw the incident or anyone who can help identify those responsible.

He said: “This was an unprovoked and cowardly act which has left this young man traumatised. This happened during daylight hours and it is possible that someone saw this group prior to the assault or as they left the scene.”
