'Stupid' firework prank

Flat is smoke logged

Firefighters rushed to a Luton flat on Tuesday night, after someone put a lit firework through an open window.

The woman living in the Jersey Road ground floor flat was smoking a cigarette in the kitchen, at around 7pm, when a Catherine Wheel style firework shot inside through the window.

It span around the room and the woman managed to escape, closing the kitchen door behind her.

She was taken to Luton & Dunstable Hospital suffering from shock and smoke inhalation.

The flat was smoke logged.

Fire brigade area manager Adrian Turner said: "It was a stupid prank that could have had serious repurcussions."
