Surgeons battle to save assault victim's sight
Police appeal for attack witnesses
Detectives in Luton are appealing for information after a 39 year old man was assaulted on Saturday morning (Nov 21).
The incident happened between 4am and 5am close to a bus stop at the junction of Telford Way and New Bedford Road.
The victim was walking home along New Bedford Road after visiting friends when he was attacked from behind by an unknown person.
The victim sustained a serious eye injury and contacted a taxi company to take him to the hospital where he underwent a three hour operation. It is believed the injury may leave the victim with impaired sight in his right eye.
Detective Sergeant Marie Gresswell, investigating, is keen to trace members of the public who may have been in the area at the time of the assault.
She said: "This incident did happen during the early hours of the morning and it is possible that people who were out in Luton on Friday night could have seen something suspicious as they made their way home. I would appeal directly to these people to contact the police with any information they may have."
Anyone with information relating to this assault can contact DS Gresswell at Luton Police Station, in confidence, on 01582 394193, or text 07786 200011, or contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
