The gift of giving
Get the festive season off to a good start by thinking of someone else – a disadvantaged youngster who’s probably never received anything from anyone before.
The Herald&Post is proud to be a drop-off point for lovingly filled shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, run by the charity Samaritan’s Purse.
A spokesman said: “You have no idea of the power of a simple gift.
“We give the shoeboxes to children based on need, regardless of their background or religious belief.
“It’s an unconditional gift, asking nothing in return.”
Generous readers never let us down.
By the deadline on Friday, November 16, our office will be overflowing with gaily-wrapped shoeboxes, filled to the brim with lovingly chosen presents that will make their way to the little people who need them most.
We have schools and church groups getting together to fill boxes, as well as individuals who simply want to help those less fortunate than themselves.
If you’re a first timer, call in at our office at 39 Upper George Street to pick up a leaflet. Or visit the website to download instructions – www.samaritans-purse.org.uk
