Three guns found in Luton
Police continue gun crime crackdown
Two handguns and an air rifle were discovered in Luton by Beds Police this week during a crackdown on gun crime.
On Monday night, one handgun and ammunition was found in Sherwood Road and another was discovered in a weapons disposal bin outside Luton Police Station during a regular check last week.
The air rifle was found on Wednesday, June 24, at an address in the Purley Centre.
A woman in her 30s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of the possession of a controlled drug.
She was later released on police bail pending further investigations.
The weapons and ammunition, which now bring the total number of weapons collected to eight, will now be the subject of forensic tests.
In 2008 – 2009 there were 60 gun crimes in Bedfordshire, 41 of which were in Luton.
But the force says gun crime makes up very small percentage of the total number of all crimes across the county in the same period - 45,578.
Beds Police is still investigating a number of gun-related incidents that happened recently in the town and is actively encouraging people with information to contact them.
Weapons disposal bins can be found at Luton Police Station, Leagrave Police Station, Purley Centre Police Unit, St Dominic's Square, Market Square and Yeovil Road.
If you have any information about firearms contact Beds Police on 01582 394026, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
