Tired and angry passengers slammed rail company First Capital Connect’s communications system after they were left stranded at Luton station late on Thursday night.
The group of about 60, including mothers and babies, had boarded the train at St Pancras after trains out of Kings Cross were cancelled because of a fatality on the line near Stevenage.
South African tourist Penny Gordon said: “There was an announcement that passengers for Stevenage, Hitchin and Letchworth should go to St Pancras to catch the train to Luton where buses would be waiting.
“But when we arrived staff were unaware of the problem and no transport was available.”
She added: “It seems incredible that in this day and age of instant communication no message had been forwarded.”
A FCC spokesman apologised and said: ”Due to the number of passengers at Luton station and the time of day it took longer than planned to organise taxis.
“We will further investigate the handling of the incident to ensure lessons are learnt.”
