Triathletes run up huge charity total
A GROUP of fitness-mad triathletes have raised more than £12,000 for a brain tumour charity – with money still pouring in. Dave Coard and eight other amateur athletes from the Boxfit triathlon club have been collecting charity cash while training for the mammoth Arch to Arc challenge later this year.
Dave, Jeanette Walster, who has just qualified for the Great Britain triathlon squad, Tara Kirkham, Paul Halford, Nathan Scott, Adam Laycock and reserves Chippy Murphy and Dave Bailey are in the middle of an arduous training schedule ahead of the back-breaking challenge which will see them attempt to run from London’s Marble Arch to Dover, swim the Channel to France and cycle from the French coast to the Arc De Triomphe in Paris.
The group are raising funds for the Samantha Dickson trust on behalf of Luton lad Ben Reep who was diagnosed with a brain tumour in his first year of school.Dave and his triathlon team are holding a charity bingo night tomorrow at Harlington Village Hall, in Sundon Road, at 7pm. Tickets are £5 with entry price including a fish supper. For more information or for tickets contact Dave Coard on 07740675507.
