University lecturers in new comedy film

Students also appear in Mad, Sad and Bad

Dance lecturers and students from The University of Bedfordshire will appear in a new comedy film Mad, Sad and Bad set in Luton.

The university's head of centre for applied research in dance, Helen Bailey, was commisioned to choreograph a short dance sequence for the movie, made by Moxie Makers and Soda Pictures, which has just had a BAFTA screening.

Helen, along with two other members of university dance staff - senior lecturer James Hewison and lecturer Amalia Garcia - and dance students Nicola Drew, Nicola Hannibal and Giuseppe Marcarelli, appeared in the film which was shot on location in Luton.

The 90-minute comedy, which focuses on mixed race relationships, stars Nitin Ganatra, well-known as EastEnders postman Masood, Coronation Street's Ayesha Dharker and Meera Syal, the outrageous granny from The Kumars at 42.

The world premiere of Mad, Sad and Bad will take place at this year's Edinburgh Film Festival, followed by general release.
