A woman was was seriously injured in a 15 ft fall into a concrete well in front of Luton Town Hall has been transferred from Luton&Dunstable Hospital to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
The world-renowned teaching facility has the largest neurological intensive care unit in Europe.
It is understood the woman, who has not been named, suffered serious head injuries when she apparently lost her balance sitting on a wall and fell into the well in the early hours of Saturday morning.
An L&D spokeswoman said: “She and a man who was hurt trying to help her were admitted on Saturday morning.
“She has been taken to Addenbrooke’s for further treatment.”
Mohammed Raza, who witnessed the incident, told our sister paper the Luton News: “The woman came out of The Duke of Clarence and sat on the railings, lost her balance and fell back down into the concrete well.”
But this was disputed by the pub manager who said she had not been in the pub, which is open 24/7.
The council is carrying out a health and safety review.
