A van driver was killed after collapsing at the wheel and crashing in Hitchin Road yesterday afternoon.
The man, thought to be in his 40s, crashed into a wall next to the road and was found in cardiac arrest.
An ambulance, rapid response vehicle, ambulance officer and Essex Air Ambulance were sent to the scene at 1.30pm.
The road was closed as emergency services worked to treat the driver and clear the debris.
An EEAST spokesperson said: “Paramedics, a critical care paramedic, firefighters and the team from the Essex Air Ambulance worked extensively to treat and stabilise the patient at the roadside for over an hour but sadly the man was pronounced dead at the scene.”
The road has now been re-opened.
