Vandals use goalpost to smash football club wall

61FC victim of "mindless vandalism"

Vandals smashed through a brick wall at Luton football club 61FC on Tuesday night, June 23.

The yobs ripped a goalpost out of the ground to help them demolish the Beverley Road clubhouse wall and get inside the building, where they stole six bar optics and some bottles of beers.

Club secretary Richard Everett, who had hoped the spate of vandalism attacks the club went through two years ago were now over, was disppointed to receive a phonecall on Wednesday morning, June 24, alerting him to the damage.

Mr Everett said: "They've knocked a big hole in our clubhouse wall and broken in. It's pathetic. The damage is more of a problem than what has been stolen. It is mindless vandalism."

The attack is the first for two years, but Mr Everett said he had "lost count" of the number of times 61FC had been targeted in the past.

Youths have previously covered the clubhouse and stand with abusive and racist messages, as well as smashed windows and destroyed fencing at neighbouring Beech Hill Bowling Club.

If you have any information about the damage, contact Beds Police on 01234 841212 or text your message to 07786 200011.
