VIDEO: Conservative Cameron hits town

He urges voters:'Forget dry rot and think Churchill'

Conservative leader David Cameron has told Luton residents to forget dry rot and think Winston Churchill when it comes to politics.

Scores of voters turned out to give the Tory leader a grilling in a question and answer session on Monday, June 29.

It turned out to be flying visit for Mr Cameron, who took to the stage for less than an hour at the Vauxhall Recreation Club in Gipsy Lane.

He answered questions on Conservative policy and issues ranging from immigration and tax credits to government spending cuts and education.

In a swipe at disgraced Luton South MP Margaret Moran, he said: "Politics has become a dirty word, particularly in Luton, but we need to change that.

"When you think of politics, think of Martin Luther King or Winston Churchill, not dry rot. Think about the great things politicians can achieve."

Later on, he added: "Anyone in politics needs to ensure two questions are considered when claiming expenses. Not just what do the rules say but also, vitally, is what I'm doing going to enhance the reputation of politics or drag it down. If the answer to the second question is yes, then don't do it."
