VIDEO: Stepping Stones to help hospice

Keech ambassador Jake Humphrey opens dedicated pathway

A pathway dedicated to all the children and families who use Keech Hospice Care's children hospice was officially opened at the weekend.

It was a particularly poignant occasion for Andy and Louise Coleman of Dunstable, as it was the second anniversary of the death of their much-loved son Samuel.

The couple were there to help BBC Formula One presenter Jake Humphrey undertake his first official duty as a Keech ambassador.

He said it was "a real privilege" to be asked to open the Stepping Stones pathway and added: "It's a very meaningful way for people to support the children's hospice.

"I came to look around about a year ago and I could not believe the amazing work that's being done here.

"But the charity needs more than 3 million a year to carry on helping the children and their families and that has to be raised locally. I'm absolutely delighted that the path has been so well received. It's fantastic and I hope this is just the beginning."

The former CBBC presenter is one of more than 30 people who've already bought a stone, helping to raise 16,500. Some have been bought by familes wanting to celebrate their child's life while others bear messages of support from local companies.

Jake has pledged to do all he can to help. He said: "I'm proud to be an ambassador for a charity that does such incredible work.

"Everyone at Keech works tirelessly – day in, day out – to make the quality of life better for so many patients and their families."

Keech hopes the Stepping Stone pathway will be as successful a fundraiser as its predecessor in the adult hospice – the Walk of Life foothpath, which has lready brought in more than 55,000.

Stepping Stones are still available for dedication. For more information call 01582 707940 or visit www.keech.org.uk/stepping stones
