VIDEO: That's Life! Rantzen loses deposit as Shuker triumphs
Labour retain both Luton seats in election
TV personality Esther Rantzen lost her deposit in her bid to become MP for Luton South as Labour candidate Gavin Shuker defied the odds to become one of the UK's youngest parliamentarians.
Luton born-and-bred, Mr Shuker MP, 28, cast aside the shadow of shamed Labour predecessor Margaret Moran, who stood down after becoming embroiled in the expenses scandal, to take the seat with a majority of 2,329.
He won the seat with 14,725 votes, ahead of Conservative favourite Nigel Huddleston, with a majority of 2,329, as the high number of independent candidates split the vote and appeared to cost the Tory candidate dearly.
The Luton North seat was also retained by Labour candidate Kelvin Hopkins who beat off competition from Conservative Jeremy Brier to win by a majority of 7,520.
