VIDEO: Airport grant helps club along swimmingly

Team Luton able to buy new kit thanks to trust fund

A newly-formed Luton swimming club is the latest community group to benefit from a grant from Luton Airport's annual Trust Fund.

Team Luton was awarded a grant of 750 by the scheme to help get it up and running following the merger of Luton Swimming Club and Lewsey Centre Swimming Club.

The club has more than 250 swimmers ranging from five-year-olds finding their feet in the pool to athletes who represent the club at county, regional and national level.

Some of its members have also turned out for Team GB, winning medals at international competitions including the Paralympics and European championships.

The club currently competes in the Chiltern League, Home Counties League, Junior League and also has a team in the National Arena Swimming League, the highest level of league competition in the country.

The grant was made from the airport's Community Trust Fund which earmark's 50,000 each year to be allocated to sports clubs and community groups from across Beds, Herts and Bucks.

Clubs have to apply with an independent grants panel awarding the money.

The fund is part of a five-year Community Engagement Strategy which is the airport's written commitment to be a good neighbour to Luton and the surrounding area.
