VIDEO: Graduates parade through Luton

See footage of university event

The University of Bedfordshire Pipe Band turned out at the head of a civic graduation parade through Luton town centre on Tuesday.

The procession left the Town Hall at 1.30pm and the band led graduates to St Mary's Church for the 2pm service.

The world-beating band put aside personal sorrow at the sad loss of one of its members to take part in the event.

It is their first public appearance since being crowned world champions in Scotland, but the joy of their outstanding achievement has been overshadowed by the sudden death of one of their most stalwart members, Piper Tony Spittle.

Tony, a member of the Luton-based band for many years, died in hospital in Slovakia last week after falling ill during a visit to Poprad with the band.
