Wanderer Smudge is safe and sound
Pet returns home after three-week adventure
The owners of a 'special needs' cat missing for three weeks are over the moon after the puss was found by a neighbour.
Sharon Kiff, her partner Michael and daughter Donna had mounted a desperate search for their black and white moggie who went missing after disappearing over the garden fence at their home in Telscombe Way, Stopsley, on July 8.
What increased their fears for her welfare was the fact three-year-old Smudge has very bad balance and little sense of direction, and had not strayed from home before.
Sharon, who up 'missing' posters of Smudge around the neighbourhood, said: "The day she came back was three weeks to the day after she disappeared, and I was getting ready to prepare myself for the fact she wouldn't be coming home again."
There were reports that Smudge had been seen in woods along a nearby street, Copthorne, and last Wednesday (July 21), Donna, 23, received a call from a former hairdressing client of hers in Lullington Close to say that Smudge was in a bush outside.
The wandering pet is now back home and receiving VIP treatment from her relieved family.
"We just couldn't believe she had been found," said Sharon, 45. "She was very skinny but otherwise fine, and she's putting weight back on nicely.
"She's getting everything she wants and is coming for lots of cuddles."
