'We're so proud of Harry'
Nominations for Pride awards are flooding in
The nominations are flooding in for the Pride in Luton and South Beds Awards 2010, which take place on May 24.
Among those to be nominated so far is young Harry Farmer, of Englands Avenue, Dunstable.
Harry, 10, was diagnosed with kidney condition Henoch Schonlein Purpura when he was four, and the illness led to him suffering irreparable kidney damage. It was initially feared that he would not survive, but following aggressive treatment, including chemotherapy, his parents say he is doing "incredibly well".
His mum Julie said: "He still takes daily medication to aid his kidney function and is seen as an outpatient at Great Ormond Street. He may need further treatment as he grows, possibly a kidney transplant.
"Throughout his illness and in the period since, Harry has been incredibly courageous. He never complains about his hospital visits or the tests he sometimes has, he takes it all in his stride."
Earlier this year, keen footballer Harry and his dad took part in a fundraising event for Great Ormond Street at Arsenal's Emirates stadium, raising nearly 900.
Julie said: "Harry has a great understanding of the effort and hardwork the people at the hospital gave to save him and really wanted to do something for them.
"Harry is without a doubt a child of courage. He is a credit to all the family and most of importantly to himself, we are so proud."
