Young Tory tipped for top cabinet job

Jeremy given glamorous makeover for magazine

He's not even an MP yet, but the young Tory hoping to win the Luton North seat at the next election is already being tipped as a future Chancellor Of The Exchequer.

Jeremy Brier, 27, features in this month's edition of society magazine Tatler, in a who's who of young Conservatives hoping to steal a march on Labour when voters next go to the polls.

The barrister was given a makeover and put into a designer suit for the photoshoot, and is described as an 'accomplished cook' who is 'tipped as a future Chancellor Of The Exchequer'.

Despite the plaudits, Jeremy, whose girlfriend Louisa Clein is a television actress who has appeared in Judge John Deed and Casualty, said he had his reservations about the feature.

'I think Tatler probably doesn't have a huge readership in Luton, but I've never read it before so I've got that in common with people. Obviously it's very flattering being tipped as a future chancellor but given the current economic climate I think it would be a rather difficult job.'

And does he worry that Luton voters will think his image is too glamorous to win their vote? 'That's the danger,' he said. 'But I don't think it would be a fair reflection on things.'
