Luton’s oldest resident, Florence Jenkins, celebrated her 109th birthday on Thursday (December 6).

Mrs Jenkins, believed to be the UK’s 33rd oldest resident, celebrated with friends, family and staff at Rowles House, the residential home where she lives.

There was entertainment from singer Brian Ferrell, and she was presented not only with a birthday card from the Queen but also a commemorative piece of calligraphy from artist Bill Grant on behalf of members of the Facebook group, The Luton I Remember.

Manager Donna Pitty said: “Florence herself is shocked that she is 109 years old, she says she doesn’t feel that age. She was delighted with all her cards, presents and flowers.”
