A young Luton man whose life spiralled out of control when he was a teenager is in line to receive a prestigious royal award.

Michael Tyler, 22, of Buchanan Drive has beeen nominated for the HP Flying Start Award at The Prince’s Trust & Samsung Celebrate Success awards. He is one of only three finalists from across the UK.

He’ll be at the gala presentaton ceremony at London’s Leicester Square Odeon on March 12 which is being hosted by his heroes Ant and Dec. The former Lealands High pupil can’t believe he’ll be meeting them in person after admiring them for so many years on TV.

Michael, who was homeless at 18, took part in the Trust’s Get into Railways programme which included sessions on teamwork and having a positive mental attitude.

He said: “I knew nothing about trains. But it opened my eyes to all the opportunities and I thought ‘This could be my big chance.’

“I also learned never think negative in a bad situation.”
