‘My breast implant suffering is over’
Melanie Schilling
A WOMAN who had dangerous PIP breast implants is speaking out to help others in the same situation.
Melanie Schilling, 34, and her sister Sarah Booth, 27, were the first women in the UK to speak to the media about their breast implants, which used non-medical grade silicone found in mattresses.
Luton resident Melanie said: “I went to the Vienna International Medical Clinic who were offering to remove UK women’s implants for free.
“I also had a replacement during the operation and they were amazing. Health care standards in Austria are very high and I’m very pleased with the results.
“I am now free from these PIP implants and am trying to help women that want advice on where to go and what to do.”
Melanie, who had the implants in 2008, suffered with pain and burning and was put on cancer treatment drugs to control the pain.
She said: “I’m upset that I’ve had to suffer another surgery and had time off work.
“This has had a huge impact on my life. I’m making a stand for other women. I know lots of women in Luton that have these implants and two that have ruptured. I believe in the future we will hear of many more ruptures and illness down to these implants.”
Around 40,000 British women are believed to have the PIP implants.
