Schoolgirls and teachers at Challney High School for Girls showed their huge hearts by raising more than £6,500 in their own Race for Life.

Every student in the school took part during the event and had the option of running, skipping, walking and even hopping along the track course.

A ‘memory tree’ was also placed in the school reception for staff and students to remember loved ones who had passed away from cancer.

The atmosphere in the two-week build-up to the race was said to be immense with pupils gathering sponsorship and deciding what pink things to wear.

Head teacher Shirley Havard said: “The generosity of all those that organised, participated in and sponsored this event has been awesome!

“The students, their parents and carers, staff and supporters, should all be very proud of this achievement and know that together we can make a difference.”
