Avid Luton readers are being encouraged to share their passion for the written word with local school children.
Earlier this month hundreds of litte learners dressed up as their favourite book characters, enjoyed stories and celebrated reading.
Now Luton Borough Council and literacy charity Beanstalk are looking for volunteers to provide dedicated one-to-one support for primary school children.
Each trained reading helper does two sessons a week providing much-needed consistency and patience for children who may otherwise become disinterested in reading.
Helpers also encourage children to explore their interests and reading for pleasure.
The charity is already supporting more than 700 children with the help of 250 volunteers across the area. They’re hoping to find more enthusiastic volunteers in Luton who can spare two afternoons or mornings a week.
