Still fighting on after 150 years...

Cadets celebrate 150 years of the organisation

Cadets across Bedfordshire will this year be celebrating the 150th anniversary of the formation of the young forces.

The celebration is called Cadet150 and will be marked at all levels of the forces, sea cadet, air training, army cadet and combined cadet.

The idea of Cadet150 is to honour the role that cadet for-ces play in assisting young people towards adulthood through learning new skills and developing self-confidence.

Colonel Ian Macleod, Commandant of Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Army Cadet Force, said: "It is so rewarding to see our young cadets developing their personal skills and growing in confidence.

"We are delighted to be celebrating 150 years of this fantastic movement."

The cadet movement is one of the oldest and most successful youth organisations in the world with origins dating from 1860.

Today there are 131,000 young people with 25,000 adult volunteers leading them in over 3,000 sites across the country.
