Most of the shops opened and gave shoppers a discount or free goody bag.

There was also a guest appearance from The Only Way Is Essex couple, Danielle Armstrong and James Lock, who met students and joined in with the games and activities.

Celebrity guest Danielle said: “I think it is brilliant that so many students have come tonight and it is great that The Mall has put on the event.

“It is hard for businesses at the moment, especially with online shopping, so these events encourage people to go to their local shopping centres.”

Kate Staniforth, The Mall’s marketing manager, said: “We are really happy with how well the event went. The shops had a lot of business and the students had a great time.

“We are really grateful to Danielle and James from The Only Way Is Essex for coming down and joining in with the activities and signing photos for the students. It was a really good night.”
