A Toddington teenager who was chosen to go to a Guiding event in Canada has been helped in her fundraising efforts by a local supermarket.

Last weekend Nisa Local Stores invited customers to buy a balloon for £2 to help Harlington Upper School pupil Kayleigh Parker achieve her £2,200 target.

Kayleigh, who’s been a guide for four years, had already raised £1,600 washing cars and holding cake and car boot sales.

The 14-year-old said going on the trip was a ’great opportunity.’

She added: “There’ll be lots of amazing things to do like white water rafting and tracking and I’ll get the chance to meet up with guides from all over the world. I’m very excited.”

Store manager Gary Bilbrough said: “Our store is at the heart of the community and serving the community is at the heart of all we do.

“Kayleigh’s worked extremely hard to raise as much as she has and we’re delighted to be able to support her.

“She exceeded her objective and very kindly donated the extra cash to the NSPCC who were also fundraising that day.”
