SATURDAY FOOTBALL: Blunham remain five points clear

Peter Francis rounds-up the best of the weekend's Bedfordshire League action

Blunham remain five points clear at the top of the Premier Division table after beating visitors Campton 5-2 which takes their winning run to seven games.

Andy Smith helping himself to a hat-trick alongside goals from Matthew McMahon and Ivan Finch, while Andrew Hayday and Kerion O'Toole netted the visitors' replies.

For second placed side Caldecote it required a 89th minute winner from Paul Lawrence to end Wilshamstead'ss unbeaten away record and to send them to their first defeat in six outings.

Lawrence's winner was his second goal in the 4-3 win, Dan Wilson and Garath Boness the other home scorers against replies from Kevin Butler, Colin Marshall and Paul Dwyer.

Up into third are Oakley Sports who were 5-2 winners against visitors Renhold United. Ben Brown led the way with two goals with support strikes from Stuart Kelly, Jon Seale and Rob Crowfoot, United's replies from a Chris Huckle penalty and Shaun Gilbert.

United's defeat drops them to fifth in the table after Ickwell & Old Warden climbed above them with a 2-1 victory over Woburn. Gary Fil netting both of the home goals against a reply from David Stocker.

Elsewhere AFC Kempston Town returned to winning ways to send Dunton to their sixth consecutive league defeat 6-1 victory at Hillgrounds.

Justin Patterson and Tom Pitts both found the net twice alongside further strikes from Danny Pilgrim and Carmine Cientanni, the lone reply from Lawrence Bosher.

The day's other top flight action saw Sharnbrook take their unbeaten home run to four games with a 2-1 win over bottom of the table Westoning Recreation Club, The goals came from Jason Allison and Darren Minney while the Rec Boys reply was an own goal.

Division One

It's as you were in Division One after the top four came up with victories.

Leaders Flitwick Town made it four home wins on the bounce in seeing off AFC Kempston Town Reserves thanks to Ben Wallington's hat-trick and a brace from Dean Warren in a 5-2 win. Town's replies came from Nigel Drummond and Danny Bibby.

Second place Leighton United were enjoying a home win by the same scoreline over Sandy. Kevin Hilton and Jamie Bather were both on the mark twice alongside Alec Fry while Sandy's replies came from Phil Beal and Ian Hammett.

Also hitting five were third in the table Caldecote Reserves with a 5-1 win at bottom of the table Kempston Hammers Sports. First half goals came from Andrew Spiers and Mick Robinson with Mark Cox pulling it back to 2-1 at the break.

Jack Boyd then stole the show in the second half with a hat-trick but he spoiled his copybook by missing from the penalty spot.

Meanwhile fourth placed Meltis Albion kept up their title challenge with a 4-1 victory at Campton Reserves who lost for the fifth time in as many outings. Daniel Wells, Asa Garlick, Luke Pell and a Salvetore Ventriquia penalty did the damage against a home reply from Andrew Fennel on his Campton debut.

Elsewhere Marston Social leap-frogged above Kempston into fifth with a 2-0 home win over them after first half goals from Ashley Dean and Jimmy Ross did the trick.

For Bedford Sports Athletic after two straight defeats, it was a return to winning ways. They won 4-0 at home to Blunham Reserves. Ashley Mead opened the scoring in the first half before he added a second after the break, Tony McGovern and Gary Canzano helping them coast to victory in the second period.

Henlow's two game winning run was halted in a 5-4 defeat at FC Meppershall. Craig Damon with a hat-trick plus Jamie McGregor and Jason Nice got the winners' goals against a brace in reply from Pete Saunders and strikes from Andy Newton and James Tizard.

The day's other game in this section saw Stevington lift themselves out of the bottom two with a 4-2 home win over Ickwell & Old Warden Reserves. Andy Carling (two), Gavin White and Aaron Fletcher netted the goals against replies from James Vallom and Lee Tetley.

Division Two

Bedford Hatters Division Two lead is now up to four points after they ran out 4-1 winners at Potton Wanderers who were being beaten on home soil for the first time this season.

Chris Fry struck in the second minute to put Hatters ahead before a Danny Fox's free kick from all of 45 yards levelled it four minutes into the contest. Fox then to had a 33rd minute penalty saved by Hatters' keeper Leo Malciante to take the sides in all square at the interval.

Within ten minutes of the restart, Fry had nudged the visitors ahead with a sweet low drive from just outside the penalty box.

It was a lead they failed to add to 17 minutes from time when Richard Cox fired a penalty wide of the posts while home player Dave Trundley in his protest to referee Paul Parrott over the decision was shown his second yellow card so he took an early bath.

Cox's embarrassment at seeing his spot kick saved was forgotten as Scott Alleyne scored 60 seconds later to take Hatters 3-1 clear, Fry then completed his hat-trick three minutes from time to ensure his side still remain unbeaten on the road this season.

Meanwhile Marston Shelton Rovers were extending their unbeaten ways to ten games by sharing the spoils in a 2-2 draw at Shefford Town. Tom Scurfield gave the hosts a first half lead which was then cancelled out by a goal from Rovers' Rob Moore.

Ryan Welton put Town back in front on the hour only to see Anthony Henman save the day for Marston with an equaliser 15 minutes from time.

Elsewhere fourth placed Arlesey Social Galacticos were to lose their seven game unbeaten away tag after losing 5-3 at Brache Sparta Community Reserves. The Luton side also retained their own unbeaten season's home ways.

Shaun Scott, Martin Collins, Dean Lewis, Faisal Hussian and Vilal Choudary netted the Brache goals against replies Mark McMillan (two) and Graeme Leger.

Still at the foot of the table are Shillington. They were sent crashing to their seventh consecutive defeat 4-2 at home to Kings AFC who aar unbeaten in their last five league starts. Rown Hazelwood (two), Oliver Plestead and Andy Mayes did the damage against home replies from Sam Larsen and Richard Ciaravella.

Clifton meanwhile netted their first win in seven outings with a 2-0 victory at Kempston Royals. Robert Harradine and Darren Carter scoring the vital goals.

Elsewhere it was a return to winning ways after three straight defeats for Great Barford. They won 3-0 at Elstow Abbey. Stan Hobbs scored in the opening half and again 20 minutes from time with Luke Haverly and George Harris winning the points.

The day's final game saw Marabese Ceramics claim a 4-1 win against visitors Harpur FC. Denver Donaldson, James Maden, Darren Payne and Lou Marabese scored the goals.

Division Three

There was just one game in Division Three with Stopsley Park retaining their season's unbeaten away run although they shared the spoils after a 1-1 draw at second place Dunton Reserves.

Luke Gurney gave the hostse the lead ten minutes in while Omar Richards levelled in the 55th minute.

Division Four

Sundon Park Rangers are back on top of Division Four after winning 10-1 at bottom of the table Bedford Park Rangers. Matthew Conway (four), Luke Evans (two) together with Daniel Viola, Mark Bonner, Lawrence Mapp and Nicky Buttergeig did the damage, the lone reply from Mike Burke.

On the day when Bedfordshire FA General Secretary Peter Brown was on hand to present Eastcotts with their Adult Charter Standard Status award, they also came up with the goods on the pitch, running out 4-0 winners over Thurleigh. Tony Milioti netted a hat-trick with Liam Parker scoring the other.

Watson Shield

In Watson Shied Group One action, Dinamo Flitwick took a step closer to the last 16 with a 3-1 win over Riseley Sports Reserves. Nick Stanton, Dan Myers and Barrie Lee Hannam were on the scoresheet against a reply from Mark Weekley.

In Group Two, Caldecote 'A' have a mountain to climb if they are going to make the last 16 after losing 2-0 at home against Sharnbrook Reserves. Darren Wallinger and Mark Smith netted the goals to take Sharnbrook to the top of the group table.

Group Four action saw M & DH Oakley retain top spot with a 3-1 win at Queens Park Crescents after goals from Jamie Underwood, Thomas Donnerly and Adam Emms, the reply from Shazed Satter.

New leaders in Group Five are Westoning Recreation Club Reserves who claimed a 3-1 home win over Wilshamstead Reserves with goals from Luke Caulfield (two) and John Bass.

Elsewhere Renhold Village all but booked their passage into the last 16 in Group Six with a 5-2 victory at Stewartby Village. Carl Townsend (two), Pete Neal, Michael Luke and Simon Wade were all on the scoresheet against replies from George Wheelhouse and Michael Darnell.

And finally in Group Seven, Clifton Reserves topped the table after a 5-1 home win against Sandy Reserves. Sam McNaught led the way with a hat-trick and he was joined on the scoresheet by Richard Covington and Leighton Machin. The Sandy reply came from Kevin Fage.
