SATURDAY FOOTBALL: Riseley's withdrawal a blow

Peter Francis takes a look at the best of the action from the Bedfordshire Football League
Riseley Sports' withdrawal from the top flight was confirmed in midweek and it has necessitated their season's record being expunged from the Premier Division table.

It means Blunham are now top for the first time this season after a 2-1 victory at Woburn.

Ahead after 25 minutes with a goal from Chris Dunne, Chris Allen levelled for the Lions five minutes from time only for Andy Smith to pop in an 89th minute winner to extend Blunham's winning away run to four on the trot.

Renhold United made it eight games unbeaten as they held onto second spot, just a point adrift of Blunham after they beat Sharnbrook 3-1 with Chris Huckle netting all three before Alex Strange hit the visitors' consolation ten minutes from time.

Up into third spot are current chamions Caldecote who claimed their first home win of the season by defeating Southill Alexander 4-0.

Substitute Paul Standen opened the scoring in the 59th minute before a Russell Kemp header doubled the scoreline four minutes later.

And it was curtains for the visitors 15 minutes from time when Paul Lawrence added a third with Dave Daniels making it four two minutes from time.

It wasn't a good day at the office for Biggleswade United Reserves, who have dropped to fourth after being beaten 3-1 at home by Oakley Sports for made it four away wins on the bounce.

Stuart Kelly opening the scoring ten minutes in and by half time the visitors were 3-0 up thanks to a brace from Ben Brown. Jack Gabbitas scored the lone reply on the hour.

Over at Rectory Road, Campton's home game with Wilshamstead was abandoned during the opening half following a serious back injury to the home sides' Lee Addington. At the time of the abandonment Campton were leading 1-0 thanks to a fifth minute goal from Wayne Goldsmith.

The day's final Premier match saw Ickwell & Old Warden achieve their second home win of the season with a 4-1 victory over AFC Kempston Town. The goals came from Nick Jones, Steve Thomas, Zak Rowe and Nick Cooper against a lone reply from Tom Pitts.

Division One

For the seventh week in succession there is another new leader in Division One. Marston Social took over for the second time this season on goal difference from Leighton United after they ran out 4-1 winners against FC Meppershall.

There were two goals from Daniel Bullen alongside single strikes from Luke Tompkins and James Kinns, the Meppershall reply from Patrick King.

Leighton were 4-0 home winners over Henlow with two goals from Alex Fry plus strikes from Lane Eadie and Kevin Hilton and it keeps them a point ahead of third place Caldecote Reserves who netted an 2-0 home win over Campton Reserves with Jack Boyd scoring both in the 35th and 55th minutes.

Morning leaders Flitwick Town suffered a 2-0 defeat at Meltis Albion which dropped them to fourth while the Albion made it six unbeaten and climbed to fifth thanks too second half strikes from Darren Ashpole and James Pickard.

Making up the top six are Bedford Sports Athletic who were 4-3 winners at Kempston. Ashley Mead with a hat-trick plus a goal from Ian Asplin outscored a home brace from Aaron Perrett and a strike from Ricky Prince.

Life gets no better for bottom of the table Kempston Hammers Sports. They suffered a fifth consecutive away defeat when beaten 3-2 at AFC Kempston Town Reserves who took their own unbeaten run to five games. An own goal plus two strikes from Earl Patterson did the damagee while the Hammers' replies both came from Sean Winconek.

Still struggling at the bottom are Stevington who were beaten 2-1 away to Blunham Reserves for whom Carl Warner hit both with an own goal in reply.

Division Two

The only Division Two fixture saw Arlesey Social Galacticos fail to close the gap on leaders Potton Wanderers as they were beaten 5-2 at home by Kempston Royals.

Lorenzo Jordan (hat-trick), Liam Boland and Andy Palombella were the Royals' heroes with the Arlesey replies from James Gentry and James Geekie.

Watson Shield

In the afternoon's Watson Shield group games, Dunton Reserves were the biggest winners with a 9-1 victory at Bedford Park Rangers. Steve Spiers netting five alongside single strikes from Jon Fediw, Joe Lewis, Tom Buton and Sam Manners while the lone reply came from an own goal.

For Stopsley Park it was an 5-1 home victory over Dinamo Flitwick with goals from Kenny Ivy, Steve Lairo, Nathan Osbourne, Jason Ward and Jamie Felmingham with Dinamo's reply from Nick Payne.

Also winning at home were Flitwick Town Reserves. They were 4-2 winners over Clifton Reserves with Chris Bull, Chris Greene, Liam Penwright and Paul Harvey all on the scoresheet.

The day's final Shield tie between Kempston Athletic and Caldecote 'A' ended in a 2-2 draw. Sean Betts and Sam Fuller scored the home goals against a brace in reply from Gary Allum.

Bedfordshire FA Junior Cup

County Junior Cup holders Great Barford made their exit at the second hurdle as they were beaten 4-3 at home by Stopsley Baptish Church despite goals from Surge Ndurum, Daniel Stafford and a Jason Ames penalty which failed to save them.

Of the eight all-Bedfordshire County Football League affairs, there was just two shock result. Division Four side M&DH Oakley won 3-1 at Division Three outfit Riseley Sports Reserves as goals from Daniel Lupton, Adian Emms and Ben Johnson put them into the hat for Monday's draw. The Riseley reply came from James Parker.

Division Three side Westoning Recreation Club Reserves were 5-4 extra time winners over Division Two Clifton with Loam Boyle on the mark twice alongside goals from Greg Douglas, Alex Barnwell and Andrew Morris, the Clifton replies from Tom Allen (three) and Mark Gearing.

In the other clashes, Brache Sparta Community Reserves were the biggest winners. They beat Eastcotts 9-0 with both Richard Anderson and Bilal Choudhury claiming hat-tricks alongside single strikes from Glen Collins, Aiden Fletcher and Mark Taylor.

For Marabese Ceramics it was a 6-0 home win againt Thurleigh with a brace from Nick Hooley, an own goal plus strikes from Gary Bottazzi, James Tizard and Petino D'Angelo.

Also hitting six were Potton Wanderers who beat Sundon Park Rangers 6-2 with goals from Sam Worthington (three), Danny Fox, Ricky Aris and Antony Schurek, the replied by Matt Conway and Lawrence Mapp.

Going nap were Shillington who were 5-3 winners at Sandy Reserves. Sam Larsen netting three and Lewis Osbourne two against home replies from Steve Jakes, Charlie Seward and Kevin Fage.

In the remaining two all-Bedfordshire League affairs it was the visitors who came out on top.

Kings AFC's Danny Cain bagged two and Michael Whelan and Rowan Hazelwood one apiece as they won 4-0 at Elstow Abbey while a brace from Carl Townsend plus strikes from Stuart Kester and Dan Luke took Renhold Village to a 4-3 win at Wilshamstead Reserves, for whom Mark Kelly netted twice and Glen Tumulty once.

The day's overall top scorers however were Bedford Hatters. They were 15-1 winneers against Luton District & South Beds League side LB Galaxy. Richard Cook netting five, Scott Alleyne four along with braces for Aaron Izzard and Rob Hewitt, the other single strikes from Simon Pixley and Daniel De Feo.

Also knocking out Luton District & South Beds League opposition were both Harpur FC and Marston Shelton Rovers. The Rovers did it with a brace from both Xennon Paul and Lewis Hay plus single strikes from Aaron Franks, Lee Dudley and Sean McFarland as they won 7-3 at Luton Leagrave Reserves.

Meanwhile Harpur FC were 5-4 winners against Co-Op Sports after Cameron Browne (two), Jordan Kumar, Justin Dear and Carl Catchpole saw them home.

For Lidlington United Sports it was a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of North Bucks League side Heath Panthers United although but Queens Park Crescents were to take the league's revenge with a 3-2 away win over Heath Panthers United Reserves with two goals from Ayaz Hussain and a strike from Husnain Rahman.

In the day's final County Cup tie, Sharnbrook Reserves were beaten 4-1 by Luton League side Christians in Sport Reserves, Richard Bridgestock scoring the consolation.
