Legendary former England batsman, Graham Gooch, recently visited a Luton cricket academy for a batting masterclass.
The masterclass, run by Cricket Plus Academy, gave 24 young cricketers aged between seven and 13 years the chance to learn batting techniques from the ex-England and Essex captain.
Head coach Faisal Khan said: “The masterclass was a huge success. It was a huge honour for us all to have worked with Graham Gooch.
“He not only taught young talent the art of batting but also gave some invaluable coaching tips to our Cricket Plus team of coaches.”
Mr Khan also expressed the team’s excitement to practice the coaching techniques they learnt, in the academy’s upcoming winter courses.
The masterclass started off with a brief talk by Mr Gooch to the young cricketers, their parents and coaches at the academy, followed by a basic batting demonstration. The rest of the masterclass consisted of the young players learning techniques such as grip, stance, head position and balance, and playing in teams against each other, led by Mr Gooch and Mr Khan.
The session ended with a Q&A session with Mr Gooch where the young cricketers, their parents and coaches were given “invaluable” tips and suggestions to improve their game.
Mr Gooch said: “It is my first time working in Luton as a coach. I am totally amazed to see how much talent Luton has and I thank Cricket Plus for giving me this opportunity.
“I look forward to coming back to Cricket Plus to work with more young passionate and talented cricketers.”
