Beds U11s batter Warwickshire B

A rare rain-free day saw undefeated Bedfordshire U11s score a fine 77-run win over Warwickshire’s B team at Bedford CC.

Warwickshire had no hesitation in putting Beds into bat given the amount of moisture in the pitch.

Rahul Sheemar and Robert Bassin opened Beds’ innings and, after an early mix-up saw Bassin depart for three, Tom Smart was soon caught for one.

Thomas Blythman briefly helped to steady the ship before being caught beind on seven.

Joshua Malkani (27) increased the run-rate with his cavalier style and injured two fielders in the process before he was caught to end a 53-run partnership.

Ben Turley (two) was then snared and followed by Alex Rennie (eight) when a misjudged single left him stranded short of his crease.

Sheemar passed a well-earned 50 as he was joined by Cameron Monteith (17) as Beds went through the gears.

Sheemar was finally caught for 67 and Lucas Brown made eight as Beds posted a respectable 162-8 off 40 overs.

Arthav Patil and Turley opened up the bowling and, after a series of half-chances, left-armer Turley took a superb caught and bowled low down.

Good line and length bowling was well backed up by some fine fielding with four direct hits from Smart, Sam King, Bassin and Monteith.

Another fine stumping by Blythman off King and a good close catch from Malkani saw Warwickshire all out for 85 off 35.1 overs.
