Irshad and Ahmadzai bowl Indians to victory

Luton Town and Indians moved up to third in the Saracens Herts League Championship thanks to a convincing eight-wicket win over Hoddesdon on Saturday.

Fine bowling from Mohammed Irshad (4-26) and Mohammad Ahmadzai (3-18) helped bowl the hosts out for 146.

Fayaz Homyoon and Sachin Wagh then put on 111 for the third wicket to win the game on 147-2, Homyoon finishing 43 not out and Wagh 65 not out.

The second team find themselves in second position in Division Three B after they comprehensively beat Chorleywood IIs.

Despite sharing the wickets between the bowling attack, Divyesh Patel took the standout figures of 3-23 as they bowled Chorleywood out for just 127.

Openers Jessen Patel and Jeremy Page scored 96 of the 128 required between them as Patel hit 45 before being bowled and Page guided the team home with an unbeaten 51.

Indians’ IIIs suffered their third defeat in five Divison Five B games as they lost to Hoddesdon IIs.

After a poor start, Karanjit Singh (27) and Shyam Katechia (23) helped to rebuild the innings, but Luton went from 67-2 to 104 all out in a disappointing middle order collapse.

Luton managed to take eight Hoddesdon wickets in reply, but Haroon Afridi’s 3-22 and Navdeep Singh’s 3-19 wasn’t enough to prevent a two-wicket defeat.

Another below par batting performance meant the fourth team also lost to Hertford in Division Eight A.

Jaswinder Singh got the innings off to a good start with 49 before he was run out.

Four wickets for 10 runs saw the innings then stall, before Simon Shirley’s unbeaten 31 got Luton to 140 all out.

Mushtaq Dalvi and Viren Patel took two wickets apiece as Luton tried to make inroads, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Hertford reaching 145-4 in 27.3 overs.

On Sunday, Luton Town & Indians hammered Waresley by 10 wickets in their Beds County League Premier Division clash.

Batting first, the visitors were shot out for just 90, while Indians raced to 94-0 in the 11th over to triumph.

Some top order runs gave the IIs a narrow three-wicket win over Eaton Socon in Division Two.

Haroon Afridi added to his 3-22 from Saturday with 5-38 as the hosts were bowled out for 187, with Zahid Khan taking 3-30 after being given the new ball.

Openers Jeremy Page (28) and Fayaz Homyoon (32) got Luton off to a good start, before 26 from Karanjit Singh, 32 from Rashid Afridi and an unbeaten 31 from Shyam Katecha gave Luton the win at 190-7.

The IIIs made it a hat-trick of wins on Sunday in Division Three as they beat Ampthill Town II by one wicket.

An economical bowling performance meant they were left just 134 to chase as Samsher Singh took 3-34.

Sharib Riaz (23) and Jagminder Singh (21) got Luton off to a good start, but despite wickets tumbling, Samsher Singh’s 22 not out, saw them reach 135-9.
