Rare defeat for Indians

Luton Town and Indians lost their first Saracens Herts League Championship game since June 18 on Saturday as they fell to an 82-run defeat against Langleybury.

Mohammad Irshad took 2-34 and Ravi Ravi 2-45 as Langleybury reached 240-9 from their 60 overs.

Sachin Wagh hit 86 in reply, but with the next top score 18, Luton were bowled out for 158 in 48.4 overs.

The IIs earned a winning draw with Baldock in Division Three B after an impressive showing with the bat.

Suleiman Mohammed (95) top scored, while Jeremy Page (39), Prayag Katechia (42no) and Zainul Abadeen (39no) led Luton to 237-3.

Despite Abadeen’s brilliant 5-35, Luton were left frustrated as Baldock finished on 195-9.

Some fine bowling from the IIIs heralded a superb win over Hertfordingbury in Division Five B.

The hosts looked dead and buried after being humbled for 78, before Gurpreet Singh (3-11), Haroon Afridi (3-18), Yousuf Alim (2-10) and Abdul Basit Yasin (2-25) dismissed their opponents for 77 as Luton won by a single run.

The IVs battered Reed IIIs by 137 runs after reaching 231 all out as Gurvinder Singh (39), Ricky Patel (39), Subash Karawadra (30) and Dinesh Patel (27) all contributed.

Luton’s openers then ran riot as Ricky Patel (6-43) and Rahul Patel (4-38) skittled Reed for just 94.

On Sunday, the firsts beat Flitwick by eight wickets in their Beds County League Premier Division clash.

Asif Hassan took 3-32 and Sachin Wagh 3-21 as Flitwick were all out for 185.

Ali Hassan then hit an unbeaten 101 and Dhaval Naik 34 not out in Indians’ 187-2.

Jeremy Page cracked a superb 132 not out for the IIIs as they beat Letchworth by 30 runs in Division Two.

Pete Bonham (41) and Karanjit Singh (46) helped Indians to 255-3, while Gagan Kashyap’s 4-31 restricted Letchworth to 225-6.

The IIIs thrashed Division Three leaders Flitwick IIs thanks to Rashid Afridi’s five-wicket haul.

Tegbir Singh smashed 97 before Maicol Javed added 50 and Hasib Homyoon 32 in Luton’s 232-8.

Afridi then claimed 5-15 and Umar Mahmood took 3-13 as Flitwick were shot out for 68.

The IVs (97) lost to Eggington (98-5) by five wickets.
