Davis tries his luck at MK Dons

Departed Town full-back Sol Davis is trying to secure a contract at the MK Dons.

Grimsby Town manager Mike Newell has revealed the Mariners are not in a position to offer him a deal at the moment, so the 29-year-old full-back has instead turned his attentions to Luton's League One neighbours.

Newell said: "We (Newell and Brian Stein, assistant boss) know Sol from our days at Luton and he's currently out of contract.

"There are a number of things we are looking at but we haven't got a massive budget.

"We've pretty much got everything we feel we need at the moment.

"In terms of Sol, there's not going to be anything happening at this moment."

Davis has featured for the Dons in their last two pre-season victories.

He played apart in last Tuesday's 1-0 defeat of Premier League new boys Wolves at stadium:mk, and also came on as a second half sub on Saturday as the Dons beat Northampton Town 3-1.

Harford faces a keeper dilemma

Triallist goalkeeper David Wilkinson's future at Kenilworth Road is set to be decided.

Boss Mick Harford is in urgent need of an understudy to number one Mark Tyler and has to decide whether Wilkinson is worth persevering with.

He said: "We will make the decision on David and whether he will get an offer or not and he knows that."

Meanwhile, another triallist stopper, Shane Gore was on the bench for the Hatters in their 1-0 defeat at Hampton & Richmond at the weekend.

Martin's on a hot streak for City

Former Luton loan star Chris Martin believes Norwich City will be pushing hard for promotion back to the Championship this season.

Town's top-scorer last term scored twice against Premier League Wigan on Saturday, having netted twice in the game before against Dartford.

The 20-year-old striker said: "I don't think there's any reason why Norwich can't be challenging at the top of League One this year.

"We've got a great squad together and the manager has brought in some great players to go along with the good players who were already here.

"I don't see any reason why we can't be challenging up at the top of the league."

And on his goals against the Latics, he added: "Obviously I was really happy to have scored, but more importantly the team won and it's a big boost to our morale going into the first game of the season.

"I was just happy to get on the scoresheet, every player out there is trying to stake a claim in the starting 11 come Colchester next week – hopefully I've done enough but we'll have to wait and see."
