Disappointing English Open finish for Gottfried

Richard Gottfried posted a 54-hole total of 117 (+9) to record a disappointing 16th place finish at the BMGA English Open.
At the Wroxham Barns Adventure Golf course, Gottfried recorded rounds of 39 (+3), 38 (+2) and 40 (+4) as he ended 22 shots off the pace set by winner Nick Chitty who had a total of 95 (-9) over the three rounds.
Emily Gottfried had rounds of 43 (+7), 46 (+10) and 38 (+2) which saw her finish in 28th position.
After the event, Richard said: "Last year I was fourth in the English Open so I was hoping for a good finish this year but it just wasn't to be.
"I started the day with a four on a hole I should have aced and didn't play my best after that.
"It wasn't my worst performance, but it was far from my best."
Prior to the main competition on Sunday, Richard and Emily both played in the Tampere Reunion Classic tournament on Saturday, against fellow members of the Great Britain team who competed in Finland last May.
Richard came out on top with a 42 (+6), Sean Homer was second with 45 (+9) and Steve Gow third with 46 (+10). Emily was fifth with 53 (+17).
Richard and Emily are next competing in the Midlands Invitational Tournament in Stratford upon Avon later this month.
