Double second for Gottfried

Minigolf round-up

Richard Gottfried claimed a brace of runner-up finishes at the London Open and Weymouth Open tournaments over the weekend.

The Lutonian won a four-man play-off to take second in Staines on Saturday and followed this up 24 hours later with a play-off defeat in Weymouth.

After the events, he said: "It was a great weekend of minigolf and very interesting playing two events on different courses so far apart.

"I was very happy to have won the play-off to win second place in Staines on Saturday, but was sad to lose the play-off and my title to Kevin in Weymouth on Sunday.

"Overall, though, I was incredibly pleased with my play this weekend and am looking forward to the last events of this season and hopefully I will be in with a shot at the world title in Hastings in a few weeks."

At the Lammas Park Adventure Golf Course in Staines, Richard recorded rounds of 40 and 38 for a six-over-par total of 78 which was five shots behind the winner, Adam Kelly, who carded a one-over-par 73.

In the second place play-off, Richard got the better of David Corkett, Jon Angel and Alan Norman at the third extra hole to secure the runners-up spot.

Emily Gottfried also competed in the 22-strong field and finished in a creditable eighth place with a nine-over 81.

The following day, at the Pirate Adventure Course in Weymouth, defending champion Richard registered scores of 46 and 41 – a BMGA official course record – to tie for first place with Kevin Moseley. In the play-off, Moseley triumphed at the fourth extra hole.

Next up for both Richard and Emily will be the Castle Golf World Crazy Golf Championships in Hastings, and the season-closing Kent Open in Margate in November.
