Dunstable leave it late
Burgoyne cracker earns Blues narrow victory
Dunstable Town came from behind to beat Royston Town 4-3 in the Molten Spartan SML Premier Division.
In an entertaining encounter, Lee Burgoyne snatched the points for the visitors with a spectacular 30-yard free-kick in injury time.
The result keeps Darren Feighery's side in the hunt at the top of the table where they currently lie two points behind leaders Colney Heath.
Feighery said: "It was an excellent game and probably our best performance of the season.
"Apart from a 20-minute period in the first half, we had dominated the game and were worth the win.
"Having said that, at 3-3 with five minutes left I would've settled for a point.
"What was pleasing was that we could've easily folded, but we didn't and our second half performance was as good as I've seen for a while."
At Garden Walk, the Blues started in confident manner following their midweek Challenge Trophy win at Aylesbury.
Despite steady pressure on the hosts, it was the Crows who went in front when Aaron Sehni netted in the 24th minute.
One became two three minutes before the break when Josh Bronti beat Paul Taylor as Royston seemed set to preserve their unbeaten home record.
Seven minutes into the second half, the Blues were back on level terms.
Neal Perrin, who had an excellent game, reduced the deficit to one in the 50th minute before Dan O'Connor equalised two minutes later with a strike into the top corner.
Wayne Mills then had a goal disallowed as the contest continued at a hectic pace.
Taylor made a number of good saves to keep the Blues in it, but they went behind 15 minutes from time when Ricky Young's effort through a crowded penalty area was deflected into the net by Burgoyne.
That wasn't the end of the drama though as Terry Billy made it 3-3 in the 85th minute before Burgoyne stepped up deep in stoppage time to seal the deal.
The Blues were due to face Biggleswade Town in the Beds Senior Cup last night, but the game has been postponed because of the floodlight
problems at Creasey Park. Hanwell Town are the visitors in the league on Saturday.
