Duo's scoring delight
Gnakpa and White score in Rotherham rout
Both defender Alan White and winger Claude Gnakpa were delighted to get themselves on the scoresheet in Tuesday night's 3-0 FA Cup second round replay win against Rotherham United.
Adam Newton's strike got the ball rolling for the Hatters, but it was White's first goal since rejoining the club in the summer – a firm header from captain Kevin Nicholls' dangerous free-kick – that cemented Town's lead against the League Two high-flyers.
The 33-year-old centre-half said: "I've had a few chances of late in the last few games. It's nice to eventually break my duck and get on the scoresheet.
"It was important to get the second. It just consolidates the
position.
"You can start dictating the play which I thought we did really well and dictated the pace."
And he was equally delighted with Luton's clean sheet, which followed other recent impressive shut-outs against Rochdale, Chester and Grays.
White and Shane Blackett kept League Two leading scorer Adam Le Fondre quiet throughout, after they had done the same against impressive Rochdale striker Chris Dagnall in the previous round.
And White is sure all the victories are helping Town's progression, saying: "We want to win every game we play, it doesn't matter if it's a cup game or a league game, we want to win every game we play.
"Playing against higher opposition, we look a better team."
Gnakpa's impressive strike from the edge of the area, meanwhile, capped off a fine individual performance and put the gloss on Town's deserved victory.
The 26-year-old Frenchman said: "The goal made sure we won. We played very well today. It was a good game and it was another performance for Luton Town which is a good thing.
"The Conference is a very difficult league and you have to battle every game and it's not really easy. But when we play against a League Two or League One team we play much better because there's no great difference between us.
"We have to perform more when we play at home in front of our fans."
And Gnakpa knows that finding the net makes all the difference with Luton enduring some recent frustrations in front of goal.
He added: "Against Chester we didn't score. Against Cambridge we drew, but had many, many chances. We could have won the game 4-2 or more.
Against Kettering we had plenty of chances but we didn't score and unfortunately we conceded a great goal.
"We are working hard in training in front of the goal – that's the main thing.
"The next (league) game will be much, much better."
