Former Hatters starlet Jay Dasilva has been called up to the England U16 squad for the first time to face Scotland tomorrow night in Sky Sports’ Victory Shield decider, writes Mark Wood.

The Luton lad and former Lea Manor High School pupil moved to Premier League giants Chelsea with his two brothers Rio and Cole in January, with each deal worth a five-figure sum.

A Luton Town spokesman was delighted for the club’s former charge, saying: “It’s fantastic news that Jay has been selected to represent his country.”

The Luton teenager is one of four new caps and the 18-man squad have been preparing at the FA’s new St George’s Park facility ahead of the game at the Pirelli Stadium, Burton Albion FC’s home, which kicks off at 7.35pm.

Carl Belle, head of PE at Lea Manor, said: “It’s fantastic news that Jay has been called up to the England U16 team - it is thoroughly deserved.

England U16 boss Kenny Swain added: “The Victory Shield is of massive value to us. It gives the players crucial experience of tournament football and it prepares them for next season, when the U17s will be involved in UEFA qualifiers.”
