Hatters snap up defender Thomas
Wayne Thomas
Luton Town have announced the signing of centre half Wayne Thomas until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.
The 33-year-old has most recently been playing for Greek Super League side Veria, before moving back to the UK at the turn of the year.
Thomas began his career with Torquay United where he made over 100 appearances until Stoke City snapped him up for £200,000 in 2000.
He stayed with the Potters for five years, until joining Burnley and was then snapped up by Southampton for a fee of £1.25m in August 2007.
On his released by the Saints after three years, Thomas signed for Doncaster where he spent the 2010/11 campaign.
With options limited with Rovers, he moved to Greece, firstly joining Atromitos last season - where he was a runner-up in the Greek Cup Final - and then Veria.
Town boss Paul Buckle told the club’s official website: “Wayne is a fantastic professional who has enjoyed a great career and we are positive that his infectious enthusiasm for the game will rub off on the group here.
“He has played at a very good level for the whole of his career and has the necessary attributes to become a very important member of this squad.
“Wayne can play at right-back or centre-half and with the amount of games we have coming up between now and the end of the season it was vital we bring in another man because we are going to be stretched.
“He is another voice, another winner and is more than capable of playing at a much higher level still.
“He played in the Greek Cup Final last season and was training with Stoke on his arrival back to the UK last month so we are lucky to have him.”
